Opening of the online application process for the FIFA Master 15th edition

The online application for the 15th edition of the FIFA Master is now available!

 

CIES officially opened the application process for the 15th edition (2014-2015) of the FIFA Master on Tuesday 24th September 2013.

With over 90% of 355 FIFA Master graduates working in the sports industry, the impact of the FIFA Master reaches across all continents and nations. Alumni work in organisations as diverse as, but not limited to, the IOC, UEFA, FIFA, Liverpool FC, adidas, Puma, Asian Football Confederation (AFC), International Basketball Federation (FIBA), Major League Soccer (MLS), NBA and the Sauber Formula 1 team.

The FIFA Master was ranked n°1 Sport Management Masters in Europe (and n°2 Globally) by Sport Business International Magazine in 2012 and 2013.

The 49th issue of the Big-5 Weekly Post is now available!

 

The CIES Football Observatory is happy to inform that the 49th issue of the Big-5 Weekly Post has been published. This edition presents the data on the average number of players over 31 years of age fielded by clubs since the start of the season.

UCA: 10th anniversary conference in Argentina

Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) 10th anniversary conference, Buenos Aires, 18th October 2013

 

Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) have the pleasure to confirm the participation of senior figures from the world of sport for the joint  10th Anniversary Conference on ‘The World Cup  in South America : history, organisation and legacy’. The event will take place in Buenos Aires on 18 October 2013.

We are delighted to confirm that Eugenio Figueredo Aguerre, CONMEBOL President and member of the FIFA Executive Committee, will join the conference as a special guest.

Celebrations at NMMU in South Africa!

Celebrations at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in South Africa

 

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) and CIES are continuing their cooperation with great success. They officially inaugurated the 7th edition of the NMMU/FIFA/CIES Programme in South Africa and awarded their diplomas to the graduates of the 2013 class last week in Port Elizabeth.

Twenty-five new students started classes during the first intensive week of the 7th Programme which will end in July 2014. The Programme will allow them to become familiar with essential concepts of management and marketing. In December, they will discover the fundamentals of finance and law. Students hail from all over South Africa but also from Namibia, Nigeria, Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Senegal: graduation ceremony at the end of the 7th edition

Graduation ceremony at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) in Senegal

 

Thirty-three students who successfully completed the FIFA/CIES Sport Management Programme at Cheikh Anta Diop University (UCAD) received their diplomas during an awards ceremony organised in Dakar on Saturday 28 September, in the presence of His Excellency Abdoulaye Matar Diop, “Grand Serigne” of Dakar, former Minister of Sports and member of the FIFA Ethics Committee, Ibrahima Gueye, Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, Djibril Seck, Director of INSEPS, and Mamadou Koume, President of the Sports Press Association (ANPS), representing class patron Pape Diouf.

The diplomas were awarded after a year of studies which allowed the 7th generation of Senegalese sports managers to become familiar with fields as varied and indispensable as law, communication, finance, marketing, sponsorship, management and event management.

Professor Pierre Lanfranchi, Historian and FIFA/CIES International University Network Scientific Coordinator

 

Can you first tell us about yourself and your career path?

I first studied history and Art History at the University of Montpellier and then received a PhD scholarship from the European University Institute in Florence where I was awarded my PhD in 1988. From 1988 to 1993, I created an international research project on "The culture of sport in Europe" – again at the European University Institute in Florence.
