CIES and FIBA team up for new and improved international migration report

The second International Basketball Migration Report (IBMR) is now available


The International Centre for the Study of Sport (CIES) has once again teamed up with FIBA to bring the second International Basketball Migration Report (IBMR), which provides an insight into the migratory trends of the sport.

While the first edition of the IBMR (published in 2012) covered the calendar year 2011, this year's report has been reformatted to cover the basketball season from 1 July 2012 to 30 June 2013.

Argentina: over 300 participants at the 10th anniversary conference

Over 300 people - students, alumni, sport enthusiasts and media representatives - took part in the 10th Anniversary Conference celebrating the cooperation between Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) and CIES.

The event, which took place on 18 October in Buenos Aires, allowed renowned experts to address various issues related to the World Cup in South America, with regard to its history, organisation and legacy.

Lord's and Twickenham welcome the FIFA Master 14th edition

The FIFA Master 14th edition at Lord's cricket ground

 

On Monday 4th November 2013, the FIFA Master 14th edition field visit programme for the Humanities of Sport module concluded with London visits to the world famous Lord’s cricket ground and Twickenham rugby stadium.

The day began with a morning visit to Lord’s cricket ground – the spiritual home of cricket. Here, the FIFA Master postgraduates had the opportunity to learn about the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which was founded in 1787, and why Lord’s is the ground that every cricketer dreams of playing the game.

BIG-5 Weekly post n°52 - Club-trained players

BIG-5 Weekly post n°52 now available


The CIES Football Observatory is happy to inform that the 52th issue of the Big-5 Weekly Post has been published. This edition presents the data on the average number of club-trained players fielded since the start of the season.

A club-trained player is a footballer having played for at least three seasons for his employer club since the ages of 15 and 21.

Alessandro Pellicciotta, CIES Corporate Development Manager

 

Can you first tell us about yourself and your career path?

I am 39 years old and a dual Italian and Swiss national. I live in Pully, near to Lausanne. I studied International Relations (Hautes Etudes Internationales) in Geneva, where I graduated (Master Degree) in 2002. My interests during my studies were mainly focused on International Organisations, History and Development Economics. However, these subjects were never as appealing to me as sport, which I felt I needed to study and learn more about.. That is how I ended up applying to the FIFA Masters in 2002 (third edition)
