Round table on the theme of the Olympic Agenda 2020

Experts of the sports industry debating at the round table entitled “Olympic Agenda 2020: towards a new bidding model for the Olympic Games?”

 

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) opened the inaugural gala evening of the second edition of the WISE - Work In Sports Exhibition, with the organisation of a round table entitled “Olympic Agenda 2020: towards a new bidding model for the Olympic Games?”.

More than 400 people attended this highly successful event, which was moderated by IOC Member and CIES Director Prof. Denis Oswald. Delegates were able to listen to the various expert discussions on this important new area of sports administration.

FIFA Master 15th edition: last stretch before the end of the adventure

FIFA Master 15th edition field visit to UEFA, in Nyon, Switzerland

 

The second legal sub-module kicked off with “Career Week”.  To begin, we were introduced, by International Head-hunter Cédric Le Nest, to the huge variety of work opportunities available in the sports industry.  He also shared with us his expert advice regarding CV drafting and interview techniques. 

Next on the agenda was an entrepreneurship workshop run by FIFA Master Entrepreneurs.  After hearing some inspirational first-hand accounts of entrepreneurship we each took a test to see how entrepreneur-like we were and finally were put through our paces in a Dragon’s Den simulation.  Various presentation techniques were adopted to entice the ‘Dragons’ to invest in our ideas - the most memorable being some blatant flirting!

Award night success for CIES

Prof. Denis Oswald, CISE Director and Mr Owen Evans, SportBusiness International

 

During the WISE - Work in Sports Exhibition convention (Wednesday 6th May), CIES received for its International Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport (FIFA Master) the coveted 2015 Professors' Choice Award from SportBusiness International as voted the best global course reputation by its academic peers.

Winner of the overall award last year, the new 2015 rankings confirmed that the FIFA Master was again the No.1 postgraduate sports management course in Europe among nearly 100 other comparable programmes.

Transfer value: Messi, the 280 million euro man

With the opening of a new transfer window, the Football Observatory of the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) is pleased to disclose its exclusive top-100 ranking of the highest transfer values for big-5 league footballers. At the head of the table is Lionel Messi with an estimated value between 255 and 281 million €.

For the first time, Eden Hazard ranks second. The Belgian is ahead of Christian Ronaldo. At club level, Champions League winner Barcelona outranks Chelsea and Real Madrid.

Venezuela: enrolment for the 6th edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme

UNIMET Students in Venezuela

 

The Universidad Metropolitana (UNIMET), CIES partner since 2010, has just launched the enrolment procedure for the 6th edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management (Diplomado Internacional en Gerencia Deportiva) organised with the support of Gerencia Deportiva Internacional (GDI) and its subsidiary GZ. Classes will start in September 2015.

The FIFA/CIES Programme allows people from various professional and sporting backgrounds to familiarise themselves with modern management tools in key areas such as sport marketing, sponsorship, law, management, communication, finances and event management.
