National A-team matches: Manchester clubs top the big-5 league table

Current Manchester United and Manchester City squad members have played 120 national A-team matches in 2015. This is the record figure at big-5 league level. At third position is Chelsea (111), ahead of Paris St-Germain (106) and Barcelona (99). The full information is presented in issue number 129 of the CIES Football Observatory Big-5 Weekly Post.

Seven out of the 10 top ranked clubs qualified for the Champions League knockout stage. The only exceptions are Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan. The last two clubs did not even participate in the competition. However, the Italian side is currently at the top of the Serie A table.

Scientific Symposium: "Manipulation of sports competitions"

CIES (International Centre for Sports Studies) organises a symposium marking 20 years of scientific and academic activities.

The symposium will gather various speakers whose expertise will help to better understand this complex issue as well as to highlight the steps which have already been taken or still need to be introduced to detect and stop manipulations of competitions. Peru: Graduation ceremony for the 3rd edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme

34 students from the 3rd edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme in sport management, which is organised with Universidad San Martín de Porres and the support of the Peruvian Football Federation, have received their diplomas during a heartfelt ceremony last Monday.

CIES Football Observatory and Aspire Academy launch the first ever Asian Football Report

The CIES Football Observatory and Aspire Academy are pleased to disclose the first ever Asian Football Report. Unique of its kind, this publication should improve the knowledge on Asian football around the globe.

The first edition of the Asian Football Report analyses the squad composition of 130 clubs in nine of the best performing Asian leagues. These competitions are systematically compared to ten European championships of different sporting and economic levels.
