Conference Report on “The development of young football-players: The training methods of Jean-Marc Guillou”

Jean-Marc Guillou, former French international and ex Xamax player

A conference on, “The development of young football-players: The training methods of Jean-Marc Guillou”, was held on 25th January 2017 in the Aula des Jeunes-Rives at the University of Neuchâtel.

The event, which was a huge success, was jointly organised by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) in cooperation with Neuchâtel Xamax FCS. More than 300 members of the public attended and had the opportunity to listen with great interest to the two well-known keynote speakers who had been invited to speak at the event: Mr Michel Decastel and Mr Jean-Marc Guillou.

First 2017 SDA Bocconi Module Report from 17th Edition Class

“FIFA Master” 17th edition students

Following a three-week winter break, the "FIFA Master" class reunited in Milan to begin the Sport Leadership and Organization module at SDA Bocconi.

Home to Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper, Duomo and epic pizza, we were excited to start the New Year by studying the business administration side of sport. This module literally kicked off with one of football’s greatest leaders, Javier Zanetti, who transitioned his own career from the pitch to the boardroom.

Big-5 league clubs break transfer expenditure record

Issue number 175 of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post presents a networked representation of fee paying deals having involved big-5 league teams during the last transfer window. Clubs in the five major European championships have invested a record amount of 742 million € to sign new players. The previous record, 523 million €, was established in 2011.

Trinidad and Tobago: Success for an alumnus

Camara David, alumnus of the “FIFA Master” course and the UWI/FIFA/CIES Post Graduate Programme in Sports Management which is organised in cooperation with the University of the West Indies (The UWI), has been appointed as General Secretary of the Trinidad and Tobago Super League (TTSL).

Experience rankings: Dele Alli and his younger brothers

What is the common feature between Dele Alli, Renato Sanches, Christian Pulisic and Gianluigi Donnarumma? They are all the most experienced players in their age group among those under contract with clubs of 31 top division leagues of UEFA member associations. Issue number 176 of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post presents the top 20 list in the experience rankings for players born in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999.
