Round table: "Football: An instrument in the fight against racism?"

In an attempt to answer this question of fundamental importance for contemporary football, an exceptional round table will be organized on 22 March 2018 in Neuchâtel by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES), in collaboration with the Department of Multicultural Cohesion and the Forum ‘All different all equal’. This event is part of the Neuchâtel Action Week against Racism, which runs from 18th to 30th March 2018.

Basketball Champions League featured in latest edition of International Basketball Migration Report issued by CIES and FIBA

MIES/NEUCHATEL - The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) and FIBA have come together to produce the sixth edition of the International Basketball Migration Report (IBMR), a seasonal insight into the migratory trends/tendencies of the sport.

Transfer value trends: highest increase for Salah

Issue number 218 of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post highlights big-5 league players whose transfer value has increased the most during the last six months. Only footballers who did not change team or extend their contract are included in the rankings. In the top positions are three English Premier League players: Mohammed Salah (+€74.7M), Ederson Moraes (+€74.4M) and Leroy Sané (+€63.0M).

“Pass it on – Hope through football” – FIFA Conference for Equality and Inclusion

This month, FIFA held its fourth Conference for Equality and Inclusion at its headquarters in Zurich. The CIES and FIFA Master Alumni community have particularly strong links with this important event as the founder and project lead for the Conference is FIFA Master 12th edition graduate, Honey Thaljieh.

Well, the “Siberian Winter” has finally landed in Milan and the chilling wind and snow reminds us of our last weeks in Leicester, but keeps us looking forward to the first hints of spring. The Milan module of the FIFA Master course has kept us extremely busy with interesting group projects and intriguing lectures from our professors and guest lecturers.

Most dominant teams in Europe: Porto at the top

The CIES Football Observatory has partnered with the leading football data company InStat to analyse the performance of teams across Europe. Issue number 217 of the Weekly Post lists the 100 clubs from 31 competitions with the best ratios between shots taken and conceded from the box during the current domestic league season. Porto ranks first ahead of Ludogorets and Crvena Zvezda.

FIFA/CIES Executive Programme: an alumna is now working for Egyptian football
