Welcome to the 19th edition of the FIFA Master - International Master (MA) in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport

Picture: the 19th edition class of the FIFA Master  

On Tuesday 18th September 2018 during the opening ceremony of the 19th edition class of the FIFA Master - International Master in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport, 28 carefully selected international postgraduate students were welcomed to the start of a new academic year by CIES Director Prof. Denis Oswald and by the Scientific Committee of the programme. This ceremony was held at the “Trinity House” of De Montfort University in Leicester.

Conference by Dr Raffaele Poli on “The transfer market and fair pricing of footballers”

On 19th September at 18:15, Dr Raffaele Poli, who is responsible for the CIES Football Observatory, will host a conference named: " The transfer market and the fair pricing of footballers." 

The event, which has been initiated by the University of Neuchâtel in collaboration with the Association of Students in Economics (SECOMANIA) and the Neuchâtel Society of Economics (SNSE), will address the subject of football player transfers.

Rio de Janeiro: Great success for the FGV/CIES/FMA Seminar on “Sport: Human, Economic and Social Development”

On 25th August, over 300 participants attended the FGV/CIES/FMA Seminar held at the campus of Fundação Getúlio Vargas, who have been the CIES academic partner in Brazil since 2010.

Transfer cost to assemble the squad: Manchester City at the top

Manchester City has spent almost €1 billion in transfer indemnities to sign its present squad members (add-ons included). This is the highest figure ever measured for a football team. Issue number 233 of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post presents the data for all of the big-5 league teams.

Sandiswa Diba (former Regional women league Coordinator of the "South African Football Association" (SAFA), administrator of "United Brothers Football Club", administrator of the "Port Elizabeth East Football Association" (PEEFA) and volunteer club administrator to "Umthata based Sasol league team Ayakha Stars F.C") was selected to represent SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay at the FIFA Women’s Administration Workshop organised under the auspices of SAFA in Johannesburg from 20th to 23rd of August 2018.

The power of money: transfer market financial analysis

The CIES Football Observatory opens its 2018/19 season with the publication of the 37th Monthly Report. The study analyses from a financial standpoint transfer operations carried out by big-5 league clubs since 2010. The total expenditure for 2018 was €5.82 billion (-2.4% compared to 2017), of which €4.71 billion invested during the freshly concluded summer transfer window (-9.9%).
