New Report shows decline of competitive balance in European football

The 40th Monthly Report of the CIES Football Observatory analyses the evolution of competitive balance in 24 European leagues over the last 10 seasons. The study reveals a clear trend towards a greater imbalance. The level of imbalance is particularly marked and on the increase in the big-5 leagues and the Champions League, where the economic divides between teams are very strong.

CIES signs new academic partnership in India

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) and the Pillai Institute of Management Studies and Research (Pillai) signed a partnership agreement on 3rd December 2018 in Mumbai. The main objective of the agreement is to organise the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Sports Management for a country where sport has experienced significant growth over the last few years.

Busy FIFA Master 19th Edition Humanities of Sport Module Enters Final Few Weeks of Term

The 19th Edition of the FIFA Master is now only two weeks away from finishing the Humanities of Sport module at the International Centre for Sports History and Culture in Leicester, and it has been a wonderful voyage. Now, we are getting ready for a well-deserved break, and spending the holidays with our families and friends before starting the next Management of Sport module at SDA Bocconi in Milan.

Argentinean alumnus awarded “Julius Hirsch Honorary Prize”

Leonardo Albajari, an alumnus of the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme organised with Universidad Católica Argentina (2011), received an Honorary Prize during the 2018 edition of the Julius Hirsch Prize held on 18th November at the German Football Federation (DFB) football museum in Dortmund.

Top transfer value increases during last trimester

Issue number 243 of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post presents the top 20 tables for big-5 league players whose transfer values have increased the most during the last three months both in absolute and relative terms. At the head of the two rankings is the fresh English full international and Borussia Dortmund player Jadon Sancho: +€78 million and +806%.

15th Annual Meeting of Swiss Sports Documentalists hosted by the FIFA World Football Museum in Zurich
