Annual FIFA Master Conference in Neuchâtel on Thursday July 18th 2013

On 18th July 2013, the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) will welcome representatives from the sports industry to Neuchâtel, Switzerland, for its annual ‘FIFA Master Conference’. This year’s conference marks the 13th anniversary of the FIFA International MA in Management, Law and Humanities of Sport (the “FIFA Master”).

Ranked as the leading postgraduate sports management course in Europe by SportBusiness International in 2012 and 2013, CIES will welcome the sports industry to this special one-day international conference. Taking place on Thursday 18th July from 13.00-17.30 in Neuchâtel, the conference will showcase the scientific contributions that the 13th edition of the FIFA Master (click here for detailed information about this year's postgraduates) have made to the sports industry with their detailed final project research.

CIES Football Observatory: weekly follow up on transfer fees

Weekly follow up on transfer fees

 

Throughout the summer, the CIES Football Observatory will compare the transfer fees paid to sign players under contract with big-5 league clubs with the values estimated by its exclusive econometric model.

Every week, a new edition of the Big-5 Weekly Post will present the comparison between the fee amounts paid and the estimated ones for the latest transfers, as well as the most significant gaps.

Spain: registration opens for the fourth edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme

As a CIES Partner since 2010, the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC) Madrid and the Real Federación Española de Fútbol (RFEF) have officially launched the registration process for the fourth edition of the FIFA/CIES Programme. Teaching will then commence on 5 October 2013.

Over 120 students from different professional and sporting backgrounds have already undertaken this intensive Programme which provides students with the modern management tools needed in the areas of marketing, sponsorship, law, management, communication, finance and organization of sporting events. The Programme also offers students the opportunity to participate in conferences which are led by high profile experts from the sports industry both internationally and nationally.

The launch of the 2013 edition of the CIES Football Observatory Annual Review on the big-5 European leagues has received widespread coverage in the media. A selection of papers published is presented on the Football Observatory's website.

The publication presents a comparative analysis of clubs and players in the big-5 European leagues at demographic, economic and pitch performance levels. An excerpt of the study is to be found on the Football Observatory's website.

Vincent Monnier, CIES Senior Manager International Relations


Can you first tell us about yourself and your career path?

In fact, my career is filled with coincidences. After completing studies in history and finding my first job in industry, I wanted a few months of professional experience in Zurich… and I “landed” at FIFA, which had a staff of 35 at the time, and ended up staying more than 10 years… Another coincidence was that due to internal reorganisation, I was entrusted with - among other duties - management of the academic activities of FIFA, and therefore of CIES. I joined CIES in 2006, having completed a Master’s Degree in communication sciences, to develop the activities of the FIFA/CIES International University Network… So nothing was really planned, but fate is (sometimes) a good provider…
