FIFA Diploma in Football Law

As part of an on-going effort to share knowledge with sports law professionals around the world, FIFA is launching a new Diploma in Football Law in collaboration with the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES). The Diploma is designed for sports executives, either working in the legal department of a FIFA Member Association, holding a legal position in a players' union, club or league, or working as a sports lawyer in the football field.

CIES Round Table at THE SPOT 2019

In an attempt to discuss this question of fundamental importance for 21st century football, an exceptional round table entitled “Putting Innovation on the Pitch: VAR and Video Technology in Sport” has been organized by the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES). This special event is part of “THE SPOT 2019", which runs from 22nd to 23rd May 2019 at the SwissTech Convention Centre in Lausanne.

CIES Sports Intelligence publishes new report on the Governance and Finances of Top European Football Clubs

The second report from the new research and analysis team at CIES focuses on a sample of 12 prominent football clubs from the big-5 leagues to provide some insight into their internal governance and financial landscape.

The analysis gives some insight into a club’s internal governance structures ranging from ownership models, boards of directors and representation in international football organisations. In financial terms, the report underlines the relevance of European competition revenues and the income from the transfer market, all in connection with a club’s bottom line.

Report and Atlas on expatriate footballers disclosed

For the third year, the CIES Football Observatory analyses the presence of expatriate players in 147 leagues from 98 national associations. Brazil is clearly at the top of the rankings for countries exporting the most footballers (1,330 players), ahead of France (867) and Argentina (820). Alone, these countries export almost a quarter of footballers (22.5%). Overall, the number of expatriates increased by 5.0% compared to 2018.

A FIFA/CIES Executive Programme alumnus elected President of the Puerto Rican Football Federation

Iván Rivera, an alumnus from the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme organised with Universidad de Costa Rica, was elected President of the Puerto Rican Football Federation during the General Assembly held last month. The new President shared impressions on the projects he intends to develop during his term of office.
