FIFA and CIES reaching Football Development in Africa with the Support of Executive Capacity Building Programmes

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) in partnership with FIFA launched new executive programmes in Senegal and South Africa in October 2019With 22 attending MAs in Dakar and 27 English-speaking ones in Port Elizabeth, the aim of the programmes is to support high level football administrators to strengthen their professional capacities.“It is an insightful training and a tremendous opportunity to assess our organisation with a view to implementing new procedures and policies."

Table Ronde - "Egalité Femmes-Hommes dans le Sport: peut-on l'atteindre ?"

La montée des revendications d’égalité entre femmes et hommes concerne aujourd’hui un nombre croissant de domaines de la vie sociale. Mais qu’en est-il du sport ? Et comment ce dernier peut-il répondre à ces aspirations légitimes puisqu’il constitue une activité qui a été historiquement construite par et pour les hommes ? Ce sont les enjeux et les questions associées à ces transformations qui constitueront le thème de cette table ronde.

Football Executive Programme for the Caribbean successfully held first graduation in Trinidad and Tobago

A Graduation Ceremony following the completion of the Football Executive Programme for the Caribbean took place on 5 October at the University of the West Indies (UWI) on the St-Augustine campus. The newly graduated football administrators will significantly contribute to the development of professional football in their respective regions. 26 graduates from 17 member associations and representatives of FIFA, CIES and the UWI attended the event in the dual-island Caribbean nation.

Best Training Clubs: Exclusive 2019 Rankings

Which teams train the most professional footballers? As every year, the CIES Football Observatory has established the rankings of the best training clubs for players active in the big-5, as well as for footballers in 31 European top divisions. Real Madrid and Partizan Belgrade head the tables.

Haifa Guedri, a graduate from the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme, contributes to the revival of women's football in Tunisia

Haifa Guedri, a graduate from the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme organised in cooperation with Cairo University (CU) in Egypt, has created EVA FOOT, a women's football academy for young female players that has just been registered with the Tunisian Ministry of Youth and Sport. Here, she explains how this beautiful adventure became a reality.

The Journey begins...

After the goodbyes and filled with nerves and excitement, 32 of us travelled from 28 different corners of the world to begin the adventure of the 20th Edition of the FIFA Master in Leicester. After a week of getting to know each other, settling into student life, swapping stories and sharing experiences from around the world of sport, our classes began.

Effective playing time: records per league and club

The effective playing time of a football match greatly varies according to league and club. According to the exclusive InStat data on 35 European competitions, during current season, the highest percentage of effective playing time was measured in the Swedish top division (on average 59.7% of minutes per match). At the opposite is the Czech league (50.2%). The data at both league and club level are available in the 272th edition of the CIES Football Observatory Weekly Post.
