CIES Sports Intelligence publishes new report on the evolution and current landscape of MLS

The ‘Spotlight on MLS’ report provides a comprehensive analysis on Major League Soccer as the North American top-tier division gets ready to kick-off its 26th season.

The study combines off-the-pitch and on-the-pitch data and statistics to deliver a detailed snapshot of MLS, both at league and individual club level. The report is structured across six main areas of analysis touching on aspects such as the league’s expansion since 1996, the current club ownership landscape, stadia and average attendances, player recruitment strategies of MLS clubs, player salaries and playing statistics.

Exclusive CIES Football Observatory squad transfer value list

The 334th edition of the Weekly Post presents the squad transfer value for the 98 teams in the five major European leagues. The estimated value for players loaned to other big-5 league teams was computed for the clubs of belonging, while that of players on loan outside of the top five European championships is not considered. The estimates were calculated through the CIES Football Observatory transfer value algorithm.

Impressions on the CIES education programmes (part one)

Picture: David Ribeiro

In September 2020, five former students from the FIFA/CIES Executive Programme in Sport Management started the 21st edition of the FIFA Master programme at De Montfort University in Leicester (England). Three of them provided an insight into their impressions of the CIES education programmes and their careers. Today we give the floor to David Ribeiro, a graduate from Nelson Mandela University (NMU) in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Time to say goodbye

Picture: the FIFA Master 21st edition class at Milano Centrale

Shortly, we will all pack our bags and head across the Alps for the final leg of our FIFA Master journey. But before the 21st edition starts dabbling in French and dusting off their law knowledge (surely binge-watching Suits counts as “pre-reading”?) ahead of Neuchâtel, let’s take a moment and rewind on our last few weeks in Milan. Spoiler: they haven’t disappointed!
